Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

Each year since 1999 I have made liquid nitrogen ice cream as the grand finish to a LN2 based science demo at my daughter’s schools as they progress from kindergarten through high school. I have done this at 5 schools and a summer camp now. It is wildly, crazy popular and we all have great fun. On the way in the door I ask the teacher what she is covering in science. It doesn’t matter what it is; I adjust my patter to connect to it. The kids erupt with glee and joy but all within my control. They and their teachers get a great demo and actually learn quite a bit of science.

Road Back Foundation

In 2002 I acquired an incurable, progressive and self-destructive autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis. But then I discovered the neglected work of the late Dr. Thomas MacPherson Brown via the Road Back Foundation. 80 years ago medicine thought the disease was microbial but had no options to treat it. When antibiotics became available Brown treated tens of thousand of patients with tetracyclines with stunning results. After his death an NIH sponsored double blind study confirmed the amazing value of this treatment, so safe and effective compared to immune suppression drugs. But like so many pioneers Brown’s convictions and protocol didn’t match the prevailing medical wisdom so it has never been widely adopted. In 8 months I had significant relief and in 14 months I had credible remission from an incurable disease. I subsequently volunteered with this non profit organization for years and served as a director on their board.

AutoImmunity Research Foundation (Marshall Protocol)

I am serving as a director on the board of this non profit foundation, what I consider to be the logical successor to the late Dr. Brown’s work. Professor Trevor Marshall (PhD) has incorporated 21st century genomics and molecular modeling to describe a brilliant disease model and treatment protocol based on antibiotics for “autoimmune” diseases. This protocol is more robust and works more completely than the pioneering Brown protocol and works on more diseases such as asthma and certain neuro disorders. This model and protocol is likely to revolutionize the care of autoimmune diseases.

Community AYSO Soccer

My girls play AYSO soccer. They are all-stars and they derive enormous pleasure and confidence from this activity. The American Youth Soccer Organization is a volunteer operation so I do my part, serving on the local Malibu regional board of directors and on the fields as a referee. As my girls move up the age divisions I have had to take a fair bit of referee training to qualify to do my part so surprisingly to me (who would have thought) I now have a high-ish rank as a FIFA referee.
